The top 3 USA market share lamp manufacturers are: (1) Philips; (2) General Electric; (3) Osram Sylvania
The top 4 USA market share leaders in Luminaires are: (1) Acuity Brands (Lithonia); (2) Eaton’s Cooper; (3) Philips (Genlyte Thomas); (4) Hubbell (LCA)
On the worldwide supply side, 10 companies accounted for more than 68% of the LED market. Strategies Unlimited arrived at these figures after analyzing market demand as well as the supply-side activity of 54 LED component suppliers back in 2011. The rank order by revenue of packaged LED components is:
(1) Nichia; (2) Samsung LED; (3) Osram Opto Semiconductors; (4) LG Innotek; (5) Seoul Semiconductor; (6) Cree; (7) Philips Lumileds; (8) Sharp; (9) Toyoda Gosei; (10) Everlight
Notice the only company on all three lists?………Philips. So why are they looking to spin off Lumileds? Possibly to the only USA company on the LED list, Cree. The other European company on the list is Osram who Siemens is looking to divest. Is Europe giving up on being the low cost producer of LED components? (Well Germany just won the World Cup so that’s good). Others are looking for joint ventures to share in the investments necessary to lead the markets. Is everyone looking at the Asian companies to dominate? As they said in The King & I, it’s a puzzlement.
