Boston-Based Current Is Now on GE’s Chopping Block

The first General Electric Co. division to set up a presence in Boston is now on the list of businesses that CEO John Flannery wants to sell. During his first presentation to GE shareholders on Monday, Flannery laid out his vision for a more streamlined version of the huge industrial conglomerate, his first since taking over the company in August. As part of that vision, Flannery plans to jettison $20 billion worth of assets over the next year or two, including not only its Boston-based smart-lighting division Current — confirming speculation reported by the Business Journal on Friday — but its transportation and industrial solutions divisions. Flannery didn’t give any indication of what an exit path for Current might look like.
