February 08, 2018, Rhode Island, USA – Starting the year strong in decorative commercial luminaires is Lumetta’s new Echo (/’ekō/) Collection.
The Echo Collection is unique in two ways: first, it carries a fresh yet universally appealing design concept. It is an expansion on Lumetta’s popular drum line, presented in an ultramodern way. Second, it is the first collection resulting from the collaboration of a cross-functional design team from production design, engineering, and assembly. Since Lumetta’s founding in 1992, it has been President and Founder Bill Prichett’s artistic vision that has sustained the company’s product lines.
The design. The Echo perfectly plays light and pattern; elements that are captured in precise combinations on three different designs: shell, abstract, and tech. The Abstract pattern allows creative interpretations as limitless as the imagination. The Shell design enables soft yet vivid light to projecting graceful patterns, while Tech inspires energy and embodies the contemporary through dynamic form. All of the patterns suggest subtle movement, reflecting an almost multi-dimensional effect and individual mood. In terms of application, the Echo transcends settings. With the right lighting vision, it can enhance any interior– whether placed in a subdued, low traffic setting; for instance, a private office or a residential foyer, or against the busy backdrop of a bar, boutique hotel foyer, or a corner café space. At launch, the Echo comes in six colors and four drum sizes but plans are underway for the next wave of colors and luminaires.
The Design Team. The cross-functional design team that came up with Echo is as energetic and inspired as the resulting collection. Led by Bowen Wheatley, head of Lumetta’s assembly department, with in-house designer Stephanie Carlson and engineer Ryan Heelan, the team has channeled their flair and energy to come up with a fresh line. “There is so much internal talent in the company,” Bill enthuses, “that the decision to form and empower this team for a new collection came naturally. Part of our plan for continued growth is to sustain a design source from a constant, internal resource. Bowen, Stephanie, and Ryan are not just inherently creative but are very familiar with the Lumetta brand and culture.” Each Echo luminaire is a statement piece and the team enjoyed the process of creating from concept to final product. Bowen emphasizes that the team capitalized on the empowerment that came with the expectation. “Bill provided us the framework and opportunity to help define our design objectives. This energized enrollment and yielded the confidence and clarity to develop something exciting.” What followed is a creative exploration that yielded both decorative and commercially viable designs. Motivated by the outcome of this first collaboration, the design team looks forward to developing more designs in the immediate future.
