World Cup Game on Friday Is First to Be Lit with LED

Egypt will play Uruguay at the Ekateriburg Arena under a new LED lighting installation designed to facilitate 4K and UHDTV transmissions and flicker-free super slow-motion action replays. Supplier Signify, formerly Philips Lighting, promised the billions of television viewers worldwide that the cameras would capture ‘all the drama on the pitch, every bead of sweat, taught muscle and grimace’. The LED pitch lighting can also be controlled and synced to music to create spectacular pre-match entertainment. Of the 12 stadiums in Russia, Signify won the contract to illuminate10 while Italian manufacturer Disano won two.
